ITT preview
http://www.velonews.com/tour2007/new...s/12854.0.html
INteresting and short read. You'll see Hinault says Rasmussen will lose up to 5 minutes. I think it will be that and, it he has to ride in a thunderstorm, it could be even more. He lacks enough power to get through a windy flat ride. In fact, if the road is wet, his ride could be either high comedy or sad tragedy or both, depending on your point of view. I think Evans comes through here. Also interesting to note the differences in lodging quality. I was surprised in the first Tour de California when the teams stayed at this pretty cheesy hotel outside of Monterey between stages. I guess it isn't all satin sheets and room service for these guys.

thats a good summary. Since my ITT pick from the original CG challenge is gone (rogers), I am amending my pick to go with Kloden. He has been riding very well, and doesn't appear to be suffering too badly from his wrecks.
Side note, a buddy of mine who is a radiologist mentioned that he really questions the diagnosis of coccyx hairline fracture. He's looked at thousands of these sacral and coccygeal films and due to the segmented nature of the coccyx its next to impossible to see a hairline fracture on plain films. I'm also not sure why they keep mentioning Vino as a top contender. If he rides well tomorrow, he'll likely take a big chunk out of Assmussens lead, but I highly doubt he makes up any time on Kloden, Valverde and others. He's done this year and I'm sure that Kloden is their man now. |

Is Cancelara not strong enough for a long ITT?
Hincapie is not a bad time trialist, and Leipheimer has made progress.

You are definitely right - Cancellara and Hincapie should also be in the mix. After I wrote my response, I thought that I probably should have included big George on my short list of contendas. He certainly hasn't used up all his horses this year on protecting his captain.

Cancellara may do well in or even win the ITT but he is too far down to be a serious GC contender.

Touchy touchy. Either way is fine. For the ITT cancellara will almost certainly do well, but not for GC, that's all.
