Pres. Faust passed away last night
For those out of state, figured you might want a heads up.

Faust seemed to have a gravitas and seriousness to his talks, but you always got the sense he was a guy, when his guard was down, might have a nice sense of humor.
Was he after Monson and Packer in terms of succession? |

My favorite memory of Elder Faust was when I was eating at a small Mexican restaurant in SLC (Su Casa on 5th E 3rd S) a few years ago. My wife and I were eating on the patio when we saw Elder Faust walking out after paying for his meal with his wife and two teenaged kids. The kids were gothic looking, dressed in black, the boy had earings and the girl had her hair died purple. I have no idea if they were his grandkids, the neighbors, or what. Elder Faust came up to our table, gave us a great big smile, asked us what we were eating, patted us on the back and walked away. He then, an 80 year old man, fetched the car for his wife and two healthy teenagers to pick them up near the entrance. It wasn't Herculean, but it was kind. That's what I liked about him.
I also loved his stories during the annual Christmas devotional. It seemed like his favorite Christmas memories revolved around pudding. |

I liked Elder Faust simply because he appeared to have truly become like Christ. No pretense, just a gentle, kind, loving man who worked for years to help his fellow man.

It's probably not very kosher to say this, but I prefer Faust's style 100% more than Holland and Eyring.

His talks directed to the young men in the Priesthood session were always kind, but firm. I can't help but smile when I think of how he would say "Lard," and how for the last few conferences he gave his talks sitting down. He was getting more and more feeble, but he served right up until the end.
He is a genuine follower of Christ.

I met Pres. Faust one time while walking around in SLC. I was fresh off a mission, young and naive and I stopped him and shook his hand. That's something I would never do now as I understand how busy they are. He walked with me for two blocks talking, asking questions. That must happen to him all day long and get incredibly annoying, but he treated me like I was a friend.
