My training ride today
I've really had trouble getting in the miles with everything going on in my life (i.e. tons of church activities and meetings).
So I decided to do my own private century today. Let me tell you, there is a huge difference between doing a rally century and doing one on your own. In a rally, you can mike most of the time. By yourself, it is the ride of truth. Wind was pretty bad today, rained on me. Had to take detours around the lake due to police dragging a body out of the lake (I have no idea what happened). Pretty much bonked at 70 miles. Took a 5 minute break at 75 miles and felt a ton better. Got a second wind, and then bonked again at 95 miles. So I'm expecting to reap the benefits of this ride next week when I do the Hotter N Hell century. One thing I learned today is that I can go 100 miles on my aluminum bike. |

A CG Lotoja team would be killer (perhaps literally)... My only request would be that the jerseys not say anything about BYU, cougars, the internet, Cougar Board, Bernard, or Jefe.
We could be team "Grapevine!" I already rode for team "Gerald" once... (a mentally challenged "friend of the shop" from the good old days). Last edited by DirtyHippieUTE; 08-19-2007 at 02:38 AM. Reason: Because I wanted to... Piss off. |

not good. shade under 6 hours.
Which shows me the value of nutrition and miking. I actually licked my arms at one point for salt. (I have done a sub 5 hour century in the past, and I'm sure I could do one next week if I choose to). |

Terrain and wind are also factors.

the main purpose of this century was to get miles under my belt, because I have been lacking.
I also did it in a boring fashion (going around a lake 10 times) because it had aways been something I told myself I would do. After 7 laps, I really didn't want to do another 3, but I pushed on. Since I will likely be on a tandem next week, all stuff about time goes out the window. |
