Default Did anyone see the Sex Pistols on The Tonight Show?

They have recently reformed here in LA and did a small gig at the Roxy last week. The Roxy is a tiny club that holds maybe 300 people, so no luck getting tickets. The reunion is to promote the 30th Anniversary of Never Mind The Bollocks and its digital release, as well as their re-recording it for a video game (yikes).

Since I struck out seeing them live, I watched them on The Tonight Show, which was much easier to catch and from the comfort of my own home.

I wish I hadnt. They played "Anarchy in the UK" (what else?) but they looked so old up there. I listen to Steve Jones on Indy 103.1 in the afternoons here, and he appears at lots of local shows that 103 sponsors, so I had seen him before and knew that he was aging. But the last i saw Johnny Rotten live was for a PIL concert in SLC in 1989 (Flesh for Lulu opened). I had never seen Paul Cook or Glen Matlock live, but on TV, they both looked like they could have easily been guys working in my office. Glen was wearing a button down oxford shirt with a vest over it. And Johnny looked aged and silly up there shouting down the monarchy on the set of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Punk doesnt age well. This must explain why they all eventually sell out for cash....Johnny Rotten, The Dead Kennedys, Henry Rollins, et al.

Off the top of my head, I can only think of two punk bands that have been solid for the past 20 years. Bad Religion and NOFX.

I love Bad Religion. NOFX I am not really into, but mostly from lack of listening, not from dislike.

Thank goodness you didn't say Green Day or Blink 182.

I kind of stopped listening to punk in the mid 90s but miss some of the 80s regulars...DK, Circle Jerks, Black Flag, TSOL, etc.

TSOL should have done more songs about Necrophilia.

Code Blue is the only one of its genre, as far as I am aware.

For me, it was always more about the CA-based skate punk - The Faction, Doggy Style, Descendents, Agent Orange and ST.

Hey, I am an OC guy, no need to convince me there. I agree completely. Dont forget The Germs and Pat Smear

Since I am a softie for locals, I would also toss Social D into that ring, even though they are not necessarily as punk as the aforementioned. They have remained true to their roots and play here each Christmas for about 7-10 days, always selling out every night.

I would NOT put The Offspring into the ring, though. But they have never really claimed punk roots, anyway.

I was at that same PIL show in SLC. Fun times.

Bad Religion is great, but I much prefer their early 80s stuff.

I'm a fan of Agent Orange, Black Flag and TSOL too.

I love The Clash, though some would argue that they weren't as punk as we'd like them to be.

But if we're talking punk, it's all about The Ramones.
