Anybody see the end of the CU/Iowa St game just now? The refs literally decided that Iowa St won. so much for deciding it on the field.

Well, the CU kicker kicked a 50 yard field goal with 1 second on the clock to tie the game. The refs decide that the kick doesn't count because the refs hadn't yet bothered to set the ball (they had something like 12-15 seconds to do so, time enough for the offense to run off and special teams to run on, but not enough time to set the ball, apparently. There wasn't a legal way for the CU special teams to overcome the laziness of the refs here).
So, the refs call "delay of game" on CU, setting them back 5 yards but still with one last chance to score. The CU kicker nails the 55 yard field goal to tie it up, but in the midst of the celebration the refs decide that even though the clock didn't start until after the snap, it should have been running as soon as the ball was set, and since it seemed like they took longer than 1 second to snap it, game over, Iowa State wins. Now, CU really sucked in the second half, but they didn't deserve that. Those refs should be fired. |
