Default Another gay Mormon outs himself

I'll reserve comment after I see what the response here is.

Why bother doing this?

And his 500,000 number sounds ludicrous. What a waste of page. If he wishes to pursue his gayness, and no condemnation here, I don't see why he would wish to remain actively a member.

What is odd about this mentality, is the "I must declare to the world" idea. It almost sounds like they are trying to convince themselves of the rectitude of their position.

If a person leaves the Catholic Church, or the Baptist Church or any other, do they take the effort to make a big deal about it? No, they usually just move on. And I suppose most LDS do as well. However, I've never read a Catholic or Baptist doing the same. Perhaps they do.

I don't understand all the inner turmoil with people trying to reconcile their homosexuality with the LDS Church. If you are gay and aware of the Church's position regarding homosexuality, it should be as plain as day that the Church is wrong. There is nothing to reconcile -- just reject it and move on.

Or better yet, in the mind of many members, commit suicide.

What kind of response are you hoping to get?

A gay man is struggling with his identity.

He affirms himself in a manner of common practice within the gay community ("coming out").

He still loves the Gospel.

His profession seems to afford him some sort of public voice and his employers felt like this kind of story would generate hits (it obviously has).

The Church's stance on homosexuality, as well as homosexuals, is still the same.

Were you hoping for a "Queers deserve to die" rant from the board or a "God is unjust because he discriminates against queers" rant? And if so, why would either be original or interesting?

I don't know I agree with this quote, but I agree with the rest, move on.

Would it always be that the church would change to fit us instead of vice versa.

Do you work with many/any LDS members who are struggling with SSA?
