Hollinger and Utah?
Hmm Hollinger likes Utah.
Ray (San Antonio): What are some of you favorite cities to visit on game day? John Hollinger: (3:41 PM ET ) I'm a big pacific northwest guy because I lived there for six years, so Portland and Seattle would be up there. New York, Boston and Washington are obvious choices, and so is Denver because it's all so compact and easy. Actually, you know what place surprised me? Utah. Awesome weather at playoff time last year, compact downtown with the arena right there ... wouldn't mind a return engagement. http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=18347 |

Hollinger gets a bad rap from Jazz fans for the most part. I like some of the stuff he is doing with his stats, but like all things they are flawed. He just reports the results of his formulas, which are not favorable to Deron Williams so Jazz fans freak out. Overall I think he does a good job. |

C'mon, we all know he tweaks the formula so it is chronically biased against the Jazz, just like the RPI favors the teams from the east.

Well, there is a difference between looking only at the stats and not basing any opinions on having actually watched the games. His commentary on Deron Williams after his rookie year is downright laughable (I believe he said his only hope of sticking in the league was as a 3-point specialist). Anybody who watched Deron play that year knew that he could be a good player (though maybe not that he would be as good as he is now). I think there can be a lot of value in his stats, but when you base everything off of numbers and not off of actually watching what goes on, I think it skews things somewhat. I think Holly can make some excellent points, but at times he can be an ass. Not too different than most reporters though.
