Default Point of debate

On another board, one Mormon poster proposes something with which many may agree.

Does revelation necessarily make up for what education would supply?

I don't believe so.

In an isolated instance or throughout life?

I believe that in certain circumstances, revelation can either bridge a knowledge gap or totally reveal the unknown to the individual receiving the revelation. For example, Nephi builds a boat with, presumably, little to no formal training or knowledge of shipbuilding, engineering, etc...

I do not believe that the Lord rewards the uneducated with knowledge that they could otherwise obtain themselves but for laziness or unwillingness.

The Lord is pleased when we educate ourselves in temporal subjects, no?

I think the old saying "pray like it's all up to the Lord and then work like it's all up to you" is a very wise one. God doesn't help the inert.
