Default Pres. Hinckley said he would be remembered as the prophet

no one listened to.

What do you think he meant?

He said it at a private family birthday party in Utah, and when he said it, he clarified that it meant that Mormons weren't getting out of debt like he had asked them to, and they weren't storing up for their year's supply. He then motioned to the east bench in Salt Lake and noted that the houses just keep getting bigger, along with the bankruptcy rate in Utah.

I'm glad he said it was about the year's supply, then, because that is counsel I have followed. But I will feel bad for SU's family should some calamity arise. I guess he can fish for Salmon from his back porch, so he should be ok.

Year's supply AND getting out of debt. He felt like he harped on those two topics forever, but nobody listened.

I'm getting out of debt, but unfortunately still have a good chunk. For those of us who were not indepedently wealthy, it's hard to get through professional school without debt.

This makes sense to me.

This quote has been used several times and been taken out of context frequently, IMO. I say that because it seems to be a very discouraged and almost self loathing type of comment that I don't believe he would ever make (again in the context it is frequently used in).

I am actually surprised the quote has gotten around. I wouldn't have guessed anyone here would have heard it because it was spoken to such a private group.

Yeah, my source was surprised that I knew about the Tavernari fiasco, as much as I did (didn't know that it was Tavernari). Point is, word gets around very quickly, esp. if you a prophet.
