Rear cassette
What combination would you get?
12-13-14-15-16-17-19-21-23-25T 12-13-14-15-16-17-19-21-24-27T I'm looking at a 53-39 on the front with 180mm cranks.

I think your right. Having a 27 on there would be almost as wimpy as having a triple on. Also right now my lowest gear is a 42-23 so having a 39-25 will be a big change.

Call me wimp then. At least I can still look down on the triple guys.

I was going to say don't feel to bad about a 27 but combined with a small 34 I'm not sure Arch would let you ride with him.

I had a good ride today, of only 65, but it felt good after that sucky race yesterday. They canceled the swim so I loafed it on in.

I think that a 12/25 would do well enough for most of the rides that most people go on. A 39/25 would be tough for a long climb of more than 14-16% grade. Last year at the Giro the guys that were winning the mountain stages were running a 53/39 with a 12/28 rear cassette. FWIW.
I have a 50/36 crank. Most of the time I ride a 12/25, but I do have a 12/27 to put on for some of the really tough climbing rides that I go on. Did you get your new bike yet? |

The frame is done we are just getting all the parts together now. It has been tough getting everything we need with the Red group so it looks like I'm going back to all Dura Ace.

What is the difficulty with the Red Group as I'm desirous to build my new steed with a Red Group?
