It appears one of the major differences between the midwest flooding now and hurricane Katrina flooding a few years ago, is that more blacks weren't endangered with willing liberal accomplices to hurl racial epithets at Bush and Co.
Some of these pictures are incredible. Very New Orleans-esque. ![]() |

That is a difference yes, but I disagree with your calling it a "major" difference.

Dude. That was rotten.
I won't indulge your point about the demographic differences b/w NOLA and Cedar Rapids, but one difference to me is the stylistic between the two catastrophes. Katrina had this buildup where we saw numerous Doppler images of the Katrina moving toward the Gulf like a big wrecking ball. The Cedar Rapids flooding is almost like a family that left their kitchen sink on before they left on vacation. A slow, consistent buildup of water that has devastating consequences. |

Yes, Tex, they are the exact same thing.
(note the racism implicit in his post, his sneering tone) |

Odd that you use these horribly tragic events to drive home a racially tinged point.

My post was racial not racist, for those who can't tell the difference.
And the point is a valid one. Remember Republicans blowing up levees? Remember Bush deliberately withholding help so more black people would die? Remember the White House doing nothing about global warming, causing the Katrina hurricane? Where's that narrative now? The sole focus on suffering and how to alleviate it--without political fingerpointing 6 seconds into the storm--as (so far) exemplified in the Iowa situation is how the New Orleans situation ought to have been handled. Instead, dozens of news outlets, politicians, and professional race baiters used the terrible plight of poor black people to advance their political agenda, and the lack of "outrage" here underscores that. Don't get mad at me for pointing it out. Last edited by Tex; 06-13-2008 at 06:59 AM. |

While I agree that the political grandstanding during Katrina was beyond sickening, I'm not sure the events leading up to and during the Cedar Rapids flooding is a suitable backdrop to use as a compare/contrast exercise.
One of my company's clients is being directly affected by this flood. Many of their employees are out of their homes right now. Best wishes to them. |

It speaks volumes that Tex and Indy did not find the federal response to Katrina incompetent and sickening.
Folks, move on from the freak show here, it's really not that interesting. |
