Default Gay Marriage/California Fires

My bishop hinted at a connection between the gay marriage announcement and the wildfires in California from the stand today. Thoughts?

Your bishop is out of line.

Define..."hinted at the connection".

Aside from the other stuff you plan on making up that is.

What are you talking about? He basically said there were 900 something lightning strikes that hit California on the day or the day after the ruling came down. He then said "I find it interesting that on the day the ruling came down, there were 900 something lightning strikes in California that cause 500 something fires and mobilized 1100 firefighters".

That was it. I don't know if his stats about the number of strikes or the exact timing are correct.

I don't know what other inference is to be drawn from what he said. Not a few people insinuated the same thing in the wake of Katrina. Some folks just don't understand how these things work. Or the suffering of perceived sinners is somehow gratifying. I don't know.

It is sad and disappointing.

My biggest problem with statements like these isn't the statement itself. It's the mindset one must have in order to actually say them out loud. Mind boggling.

It was probably an off the cuff thing that the guy would reconsider if he stopped and thought about it. But seriously, the California Supreme Court decides that gay marriage must be allowed and God responds by punishing thousands of people, including children, who had absolutely nothing to do with it by setting their homes on fire? Really?

So why didn't the other states wit gay marriage get set on fire? People just suspend common sense way too much at times. But again, my guess is that this guy would agree with us were someone to make the point to him.

I want my position on this to be clearly understood. I haven't the slightest clue whether there is a connection or not. Just trying to get a discussion going is all.

I remember reading on my mission a prophecy from Brigham Young that New York would be destroyed by an earthquake, and that Boston would be consumed by the sea or something like a tidal wave. What are we to make of this?
