Default Combating campaign sign thievery.

For perhaps the first time in family history, most of the brood are going Democratic this election. Our eldest lives in Highlands Ranch, CO, a pleasant Denver suburb that is littered with megachurches and, presumably, a McCain stronghold. Still, she has put an Obama sign in their front yard, but she's had to replace signs multiple times because someone keeps taking them during the night. Her husband is a graphic arts designer and he's made an additional sign that may only encourage further theft.

See if he can work somethig up for Yes on Prop 8 signs, which have a very short shelf life here in the bay area.

Yes, we lost a few Yes on 22 signs awhile back, which may be a reason why my righteous wife hasn't put one for 8 this time around. Jerks.

Is there any point at all to signs? Do they have any effect on anyone?

It's roughly the equivalent of wearing your team colors on gameday.

I was asked to be the sign distributor for the prop 22 campaign back in the day. So, I had about 100 of the things in my garage waiting for anyone who wanted one. The one in my yard was stolen and replaced 17 times.

Four years ago all three of Webmonkey's cars in his driveway were vandalized on night, and it's possible that the reason was because all three had several Kerry/Edwards stickers.

I am not sure about propositions, but I think they can have a powerful effect on local elections (school boards that sort of thing) where people rarely find out about the candidates and it is all about name familiarity in the booth.

I certainly agree with that. Any time name recognition is an issue. I guess I meant national elections.

I had a "W" sticker on my car and it was vandalized. In retrospect, I deserved it. Outside of my 3 sticker with a halo and angel wings, I currently don't have any stickers on my car.
