Default I liked Ben Olson until this

http://www.realfootball365.com/colle...yth150806.html

I've always been a Ben Olson fan. Watched him play in the fall scrimmage his freshman year and thought he was better than Engy and the rest from the beginning. I always thought he was a classy guy. I loved how he committed early to BYU and then tried to use his influence as a recruiter to get other guys here. I was proud of his decision to go on a mission and bummed when he didn't return but based on the Crowton/Bronco meltdown going on, I didn't blame him. I've defended him the whole time. But not any more. What a stupid, arrogant thing to say "I'm the best RM ever". Jerk.

If he was searing a BYU uniform and said that, would you still think he was a jerk?

Yeah I think so. Test me. Name something equally cocky and disrespectful that a BYU guy has said.

I do not enjoy any cocky athlete speaking.

I'd prefer to see guys make no comment but let their play speak for itself.

Ben comes across, rightly or wrongly, as a total ass.

I really don't know much about waht BYU players say unless someone points it out to me. I follow the Y with a passing interest as it's the rival of the Utes, but not in depth enough to know what they say. The only things I can come up with would be CUrtis' Brown comment last year about not judging TCU how they played against Utah because BYU's defense is better than Utah's or how he commented that Notre Dame would have to play at the top of their game to hang with BYU. I may not quite be accurate about that, but he did hint that BYU was going to be too much for ND last year.

I love how much Yewt "fans" despise Curtis Brown.

By the way Il Pad you're not a Yewt "fan". You're a REAL Ute fan.

Thanks, Rocky. I just root for the Utes and have fun.

It is amusing how many Utah folks get annoyed by Brown, just as it is equally amusing how many Y fans get annoyed by Kyle Whittingham.

I have a theory that those who get annoyed by the rival are those who have their self esteem connected to their own team.

The kicker is this guy has never taken a snap in a college football game. This kind of cockiness is completely unfounded. Lets see some accomplishments before you start claiming you are the best RM ever.

There's a few levels of cockiness and BO's is at the very top, IMHO.

Curtis' comments are team based. They're cocky but they're designed to unite the team and fire them up. No big deal.

Another level would be to be cocky at an individual level. I'm going to win the game because no one can stop me. That's pretty ugly. But usually it's aimed at another team, so again it can be gamesmanship and psychological.

Another level is cockiness at an individual level that disrespects your own kind. I'm the best player in BYU history. I'm the best Mormon athlete. I'm the best RM QB in history. That's just plain disgusting.

Fair enough.

I agree with Archaea that a player should just let his play do the talking. It will be interesting to see what happens throughout his career. If he proves to be the best, what wil the reaction of Y fans be? If he isn't what will the reaction be?

I'm hoping he doesn't look too good on Sept. 2nd.
