Default Predictions for TCU

Although my homer tendencies will make me want to pick BYU, my head says TCU "at the wire."

OTH, TCU isn't wonderful so I wouldn't be surprised for BYU to finally win an important game, in Beck's last chance. If BYU wins, it will be the result of NOT having to ride Beck in to the win.

24- 17 TCU.

Default Beck just does not suck bad enough

to lose every possible big game. Sometime the simple fact that he is a pretty good college qb should allow him to win one.

I take the Coug's, I think a late touchdown gives them a win by 10-14.

I think that is my exact prediction on Cougarboard. But I am leaning closer and closer to wanting to pick BYU. I don't know if I can or not... we'll see come tomorrow.

27-20 TCU. I want to believe, I do. But to keep it real, I try and predict with my wallet and not my heart.

I know you're being facetious, but you point out a principle of math that many don't get right.

If Beck's probability to win a big game is say 33% and his actual result is 0 for 10, then many would say "he's due". Each game is an isolated event. So the next game he's in, his probability would be 33%.

There is no such as thing as "being due". Mathematical fallacy.

So we agree that he is due?

Cool!

Isn't this called The Gamblers' Fallacy? Or something like that.

I understand the point, but I'm with Goat and I still think he's due. :-) We're all due, for cryin' out loud. Just get one of these finally.

This morning I woke up in a funky mood.

So here's my funky prediction for tonight (I predicted something like 28-17 BYU on the other site):

TCU's offense really IS that bad. BYU's defense plays better than Baylor or Tech, especially the run defense. They match up very well with the speed at LB and lateral pursuit ability. Ballard gets blown up at least 4 times and is responsible for 2 turnovers.

BYU wins, and not because the offense wows everyone. They do just enough against a very stingy TCU defense. BYU wins because the defense is just sick, combined with TCU's offense being a different kind of sick. The result is one that nobody expected:

BYU 16
TCU 0

How you like them apples.
