Default Book Budget?

Back when our family paid attention to such things, I was placed on a book budget, because I had an affinity for buying books I would probably never read or need. Anybody else be so quarantined?

Even worse was when I discovered books "disappearing" because they weren't needed. Who needs a book on Maori tatoos, or a book in Spanish on the Mayan language? Well I thought I did, but apparently somebody who knows my needs better than I, removed them from harming me, or because they occupied the wrong space.

I used to have a big problem with this until I discovered the library. There I could check them out for free (or the amount of the fines that I inevitably have to pay. Which I don't mind. I think of it as a subsidization of the literacy of those less fortunate and more responsible than I). Since I am a tightwad, this has become my place of choice. Also, the fact that my family lives in a 80 sq. ft. apartment and is stuffed with half a dozen book shelves dictates that I return all but the choicest of tomes.
