BY on polygamy
We've all heard the quote from BY when it was introduced to him about how upset he was. I can't remember it exactly and googling Brigham Young and polygamy is not really something I want to do right now after the last thread here.
Anyway, JS told BY to do it, and he was horrified. But then he knocks the ball out of the park, going on to set a world record on # of wives. Question: do you think that quote is sincere or not? It always strikes me as being a little insincere, and my wife always challenges me on that saying only a pervert would assume that wasn't sincere. |

I've always thought he was sincere.
It's like Paul. Persecutes Christians, then becomes the most important Christian in the world. BY was appalled by polygamy, but when he makes the decision, he becomes the biggest proponent. |

BY was an empire builder, he was no shrinking violet. Once committed, he became its biggest advocate. A strength mostly, and sometimes a weakness.

Brigham Young investigated the church for two years before joining.
His personality is simply one of a hard head that can ultimately be prevailed upon-- and once that happens, look out.
