If you want one that lets you see when it is dark, there isn't a good one for less than $50. If you want one that lets you be seen, like a bright LED blinkie with white light, there are all kinds of them. I've used a couple of halogen systems for commuting before and they are so bright that I have had pedestrians dive into the bushes off a bike path becasue they thought a vehicle of some sort was bearing down on them. I find this amusing, btw.

I agree with creek on this one. If you want to be seen, get a cheap 3 or 5 LED cateye for about $15.
Nightrider makes an amazing rechargable helmet or handbar mounted halogen light that a few of my buddies use on mountain bikes. You're looking more in the $300-400 range for something like this. |

They no longer make trhe exact model I PURCHASED, BUT HERE IS THE CLOSEST ONE (AND IT IS VERY SIMILAR IN TERMS OF SPECS, THE CASE IS JUST A LITTLE DIFFERENT, it uses LEDs and not halogen, AND THE HOUSE BRAND NAME has changed (sorry about the caps lock). I like mine and suspect this one is pretty good. Niterider is superior, but it is more expensive.

my problem with performance is that I now have to pay sales tax. So I won't be shopping from performance in the future. I just used up all my TP points to get some gloves.
I saw that the lights were cheaper from some other discount site. |
