Default Lake Tahoe Marathon and century (kind of)

http://www.laketahoemarathon.com/indexsponsers.htm

For anyone interested in what looks like a fun ride in the fall of the year, I am planning to do the Lake Tahoe ride around the lake. September 28-29. Its about 72 miles and is an open road race of sorts. The course record holder did it recently in 3:01, about 26 mph. It looks like there are some decent hills, but nothing too outrageous.

My buddy and I are doing the ride on friday and our spouses are doing the marathon on saturday while we do kid duty. It should be a lot of fun.

They also have a triathlon for those interested.

Any takers? Its about as central as we can get for those in Utah, CA and NV, probably a 3-7 hour drive for all of us, with creekster probably the closest. Short flight for rich doctors from Dallas. BYU game is 5:30pm PDT at UNM, so it shouldn't interfere.

I know that route well, and I have no idea how they averaged 26 mph, as those hills are nastier, especially around Emerald Bay than you can imagine. Of course, you get some wicked descents and the ascent around South Tahoe is challenging. The course can be challenging.

The timing is tough, as Tahoe is eight hours away.

It can be. I believe, but I could be mistaken my best time around the Lake is about 3:30 solo. So those guys would smoke me. South Shore has either a nasty climb or descent and Emerald Bay has some bad switchbacks. My buddy runs the Lake Loop race. Yes all 72 miles. He's nuts.
